Boehm created the modern flute in 1847. With only minor modifications, this is the flute that is used today. Boehm published an account of his research and accomplishments, a book which has come to be recognized as one of the classics of musicology. He covers acoustics, techniques for establishing proportions and keying, his new system of fingering, and the mechanism. The present edition of Boehm’s work was translated by Dayton C. Miller and contains bibliographical notes about Boehm. Over 50 musical excerpts and illustrations. 197 pages.
