George’s Glue Hex Stick

The industry favorite is back!

George’s Glue is the preferred padding glue of many technicians. Its high melt temperature and thick body make it ideal for floating pads.

Padding Wax Stick

Our “Valentino Padding Wax” is offered with the encouragement of many of our European friends who have asked us to supply their traditional padding adhesive.

Padding wax has a long open time which gives a long pad float time. The viscosity is nice and thick similar to George’s glue but at a lower melt point.

We currently offer our wax in white, black, and brown to match pad color (in case of squeeze out). We’re loving this stuff!

Amber-Melt Glue Pellets 1/4lb

Some techs like to use pellets because they can get a prescribed amount of glue in each pad cup by just selecting the correct amount of pellets. For example, on clarinet you may use two pellets in the smallest pad cup, 3 in the medium and 5 in the largest cups. The same adhesive as our Amber-Melt stick in pellet form. Higher temperature resistance than our Straw Melt, and requires a hotter gun. Works well in open flame. Smell is reminiscent of shellac. Nice floating character. Unlike most glues, neither glue has as many stringing problems. Squeeze out is diminished also. Contains no paraffin, therefore it won’t blacken and smoke like the common variety.

George’s Glue Pellets (1/4 Lb.)

Pad cement developed for the trade by George Jameson. Its high melt temperature and very thick body makes this a great glue for floating. The pellet shape helps make padding more predictable.

Softening Temperature – 212ºF

Working Temperature – 375ºF

Padding makes up the vast majority of the work that most instrument repair technicians do so it’s essential that every aspect of the padding process (tools, supplies, techniques) be made as efficient and as profitable as possible. To that end, selecting an appropriate padding adhesive for the particular job at hand is nearly as important as selecting the best pad. The adhesive you choose can (and will) quickly make the work much easier or much harder (and your paycheck commensurately much larger or much smaller). The longer it’s taking the less you’re making so this is something you definitely want to get right!

The various adhesives we offer have different melting points, open times, floating viscosities, and handling characteristics. The type of pad you choose, your particular method of padding, and your heat source will help determine which adhesive type will be most suitable for the job. For example, our most popular Amber Melt Glue offers a low-melt temperature, good open time, very low shrinkage, and is available in stick or pellet form for easy portioning. In contrast, our George’s Glue has a higher melt temperature and thicker viscosity that make it superb for cork padding but make it impractical for lacquered saxophone keys.

In addition to sticks, we offer pellets, washers, and disks for predictable portioning.
