Leonard Lopatin is the inventor of the SquareONE, square-hole flutes, after all, and anyone who’s willing to step that far out of the box is willing to challenge any sacred assumption of flute making. It’s an attitude that directs them toward exploration and improvements of both their flutes and their headjoints and it’s one we can appreciate deeply after seeing, and playing, the remarkable results. This headjoint plays wonderfully well with a level of responsiveness and tonal color that was completely unexpected. The steep undercutting of the embouchure and the sharp blowing angle it allows for, offer a great balance between ease of articulation and a proper amount of resistance. This is a very impressive headjoint that proves the power of great design.
